I remember a time in my life when I felt helpless and lost. Nothing was going right. Sickness and Pain had become my best friend. I often thought about God and if He was real, why was He not helping me. My search through the Bible would make me realize that just as we require things from God, He also requires something from us and that is our total Obedience to Him. There is no other way. We will have to shed our bad ways, dying to all self-will if we are to get close to God. I found God wanted to lead me in a total different direction than the one in which I was heading. Even though I resisted at first, I did know that His way was the better way, and eventually I did allow Him to be my Guide.
Help me to feel joy,
Instead of pain.
Help me to feel sunshine,
Even when it rains.
So many things
To bring us down,
Please help me keep searching
For that golden crown.
I Am with you always.
Let me carry your pain.
Please, don’t walk off
Still carrying your shame.
You hold on to afflictions
As if prizes to possess.
All I ask is repentance.
All you need to do is confess.
Freedom lies with Me my child;
Don’t let Satan hold you down.
Step out in faith, cling to My hand,
Keep reaching for that golden crown.
Come my child,
Come rest in Me.
And see the demons flee.
When we dare to step out in faith, there will be a shift in our thinking as we allow God’s Holy Spirit to lead us. He transforms us into happy positive beings….if we will allow Him, as He will never force Himself on us. The negativity and the demonic hold of Satan in our lives will start to fade away.
You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Exodus 19:4
The above scripture is what God has done for me as I remember there was a time in my life when I was so steeped in negativities. I don’t know how it got to that point, but I’m sure it was by a subtle nudging from the enemy. Before long, my mind became weighted down with negativities. Even in my sleep there was really no rest. The wee hours of the morning which should have been a time of restfulness seem to be a time of great affliction. At this hour every problem in my life seem to come to me at lightning speed, financial issues, bad friendships, work, health; they were all there to weigh me down.
At this time I was seeking a relationship with God, but I still had my doubts as to whether He would really come through for me. Day after day I felt the slights of others, I felt my pain from bad health, I saw our finances fading, but in sorrow and anger I kept crying out to God. I kept asking Him when He would help.
I don’t remember how long this torment took place in the wee hours of the morning, for I choose to forget it. But what I do remember is the day when Jesus showed forth Himself through the Holy Spirit. This I cannot put it into words, but I clearly heard the Lord say; “Leave her alone, you will no longer trouble her in this manner.” Something unexplainable occurred within and I was never afflicted in that manner again.
My torment of the morning has been replaced by the comforting words of the Comforter. He wakes me up each day, He strengthens my mind to seek the positive only. While situations do not always change, if we look at life through different lenses, we will see much beauty, where there was once darkness. Our burdens can be as light as a feather, or as in the case of this eagle, they can be as light as a leaf.
Sometimes I blame Adam and Eve for the poor choices they made by plunging us into a life of sin, and then I wonder if I would have done anything different. Truthfully, yes, I know I would have done the same thing as Eve. We all have our weaknesses, and if I can’t stop eating a piece of chocolate that will make me sick, why would I think I could have resisted the fruit!
I thank the Heavenly Father for sending Jesus to save us from a life of sin. I am so glad Jesus came to show us how we can live as He wanted Adam and Eve to live in the Garden of Eden. God wants us to be free, and even though all of us are born with the propensity to sin, we can turn it around when our eyes are focussed on Jesus.
If we are to eliminate all the negativity or demons from our lives the first thing we must do is to pick up the Bible and read it, cover to cover. It’s a battle for many to read the Bible, myself included. As soon as we pick up the bible we get tired and sleepy or we find that something else takes our attention away. This happens to all of us as it’s a ploy of satan and his demons to keep our eyes blinded then keeping us from reading the Good News within the pages of the Bible.
Not only are we to read the Bible, but we are to claim all the promises within its pages. Every promise that God gave the Israelites is also for us, His little children. Many of us as Christians knows the Words of the Bible, but those Words alone will not get us very far. It is only when we start to live as the Bible ask us too, that we will connect with God on a personal level. Many think that it’s restrictive to have a relationship with God, but it’s just the opposite. Our new relationship will point us upward towards Jesus, making it more difficult for demons and negativities to weigh us down.
Demons do not like the name of Jesus, so it’s better to stay under His protective covering. God is to be honoured in every way, He is not to be viewed as a magician. In other words, we should make sure we are following Him for the right reasons, not just to get rid of our demons (evil spirits) and then return to our old ways. He would know our real motives anyhow. When we are cleansed of the demons (evil spirits) we then have to let the Holy Spirit (Good Spirit) be our new filling. If we do not do this, the demons will return and they will be even worse than they were before.
Matthew 12: 43 – 45 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, He goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, “I will return to the house from which I came.” And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of the man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.
The scriptures above are telling us that when we are cleansed from the evil spirits that are within, we need to be filled with the goodness that can only come from God. If we are no longer praising God and staying close through prayer , because we think we are healed, we could be in for a big surprise, as we could now be in bigger trouble than we were before. There is a Supernatural Spiritual Richness that will be placed within us by God, and nothing or no one can ever take that away.
Praying is also very important, because it’s just another way of connecting with God. While we can pray anywhere or anytime, I think it’s also nice to get on our knees at least twice a day and give honour and worship to God, He is worthy of it. The rest of the time we can stay connected whether we are birding, driving, gardening, golfing, whatever we may be doing.
Once the evil spirits are gone from with us, we need another Spirit to fill that void. The Holy Spirit is His name. The voices of torment will now be replaced with a Voice of Comfort. We know this because just before Jesus left this earth, He said to His disciples: John 14: 15 – 18 If you love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
If we are seeking after worldly desires we will never be able to understand the Holy Spirit. It is only when we are seeking after God with all our hearts, that He will be available to us. So we need to make up our minds which path we would like to take.
John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you in all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears, He will speak, and He will tell you things to come.
God is good, He did not leave us alone, even though many of us feel abandoned by Him. We are all free to connect with Him if we choose to and just by doing these few simple things we can live our lives more freely as we get ready for a life in eternity.
Scriptures taken from the New King James Version (NKJV)
The bible shows us how we can be free. When we come out from under God’s protection, we open ourselves up to evil, this is also what happened in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were created to be free. They had everything given to them, with only one restriction. The restriction was given to them so that they could have the freedom of choice to either obey or disobey. Once they disobeyed, we were plunged into sin. We became separated from God , but Jesus came to this earth, died on the cross and rose again, so that we could reclaim our freedom.
Nebuchadnezzar was a king who knew God only on a superficial level. He acknowledge God only with his lips, but not with his heart. He was rich and proud and refused to give God thanks for all that he had acquire. As a result of not acknowledging God, Nebuchadnezzar lost his mind and lived like a homeless person or a wild animal would. He went from having everything to having nothing. He had an attitude like many of us today. He praised himself for the great wealth that he had, and thought he had gained it by his own hard work and in his own strength. He did not recognize it as a blessing from God. Daniel 4:29-30 While on the roof the king said, “Look at Babylon! I built this great city. It is my palace to show how great I am.” As a result of his pride, he lost his wealth and his mind also. The bible tells us he ate grass like an animal, his toe nails were like the claws of a bird, and his hair was like eagle feathers. So he became very dishevelled, just like one who is insane.
Some how through all his insanity, Nebuchadnezzar remembered something deep within and he cried out to God. Once Nebuchadnezzar recognized God, (and it must have been from his heart this time, no longer superficial,) his mind was restored. Daniel 4:34 Then at the end of that time, I Nebuchadnezzar, looked up toward heaven, and was in my “right mind” again. Then I gave praise to the most high. I gave honour and glory to Him who lives forever. God rules forever! His kingdom continues for all generations.
Nebuchadnezzar’s riches were all restored to him. If God’s kingdom continues forever, then we have to be mindful that He is to be honoured and held in high esteem by us. If we are to stay in “Our Right Minds” we should have a heart to heart relationship with God and not only a superficial one.
A Man Possessed By Demons
When Jesus walked this earth He healed many people of their ailments. There was a man who Jesus healed that we today might say was mentally ill, but in the bible it said that the man had evil spirits within him.
Luke 28: 27- 29 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man from that town came to Him. This man had demons inside him. For a long time he had worn no clothes. He did not live in a house, but in the caves where the dead are buried. 28-29 The demon inside the man had often seized him, and he had been put in jail with his hands and feet in chains. But he would always break the chains. The demon inside him would force him to go out to the places where no one lived.
The man told Jesus he had many demons inside of him. So Jesus cast out the demons, and the bible tells us that the man was in his “right mind” again.
Luke 8:35 ……..They came to Jesus and found the man sitting there at the feet of Jesus, the man had clothes on, and was in his “right mind” again.
Today when something bad happens, apart from saying that they were “mentally ill,” the television reporter will also say, “they had demons,” or that “their demons got the better of them.” this is exactly what is happening. Satan will tempt and lure us into wrong situations, he will also isolate us like he did to this man, taking him out to the graves where no one lived. He, Satan, will slowly and deliberately infiltrate the unsuspecting mind. By looking up toward heaven we can make his job much harder.
It is my opinion that since there is nothing new under the sun, that what the bible refers to as demons or evil spirits, is what we refer to as insanity and mental illness. If we too would raise our heads and look to God, we could live life peaceful and happy and in “our right minds.”
While professional help and medication may still be needed in most cases, God is not to be discounted.
