Outlier In Thoughts

I’ll make this very brief, so that I don’t go into rambling, but after looking up the meaning of the word “Outlier,” I think that I can certainly be considered Outlier in my thinking. At least I’m sure those close to me think so.

If you’ve read any of my earlier blogs I speak on depression and mental Illness. I know that it is a complex issue, one that I may never fully understand, I make sure to tell everyone to seek medical help, take their medications, but in doing all this, do not discount getting under the protection of God. I may be out there in my thinking because as we do everything else to help ourselves, sometimes we exclude the very One that could help us.

I have suffered depression, I have had anxious moments, maybe not as severe as some, but in doing all to help myself, I have also learned to wrestle with God and wait for Him to strengthen me.

Another place where I may be considered “Outlier,” is when I’m out in nature. Not too many of those who know me, like to accompany me on the trails. I must find like-minded people for that.

When we get on the trails, I like to speak in hushed tones, I like to be still, I like to be quiet, this is for the wildlife that may be around, but I find it also does something for my whole well-being. It’s exciting, it’s invigorating, and of course I’m always hoping to get a good shot.

These are the two main things that could make me appear outlier to others.

Search, searching, physically wounded

I need to find a cure.

Racing, racing, thoughts racing,

Mentally wounded,

Of ever thing I’m so unsure.

Some say try this, try that,

But then it only works for a little while.

Yet we keep living in denial,

Of the very One (Jesus) who holds the cure.

Peace of mind He will give to us,

Strength to face another day;

All it takes is a little faith,

No need to any longer feel insecure.

Positive Symptoms

The fact that each one of us has a yearning deep down inside for love, peace and happiness, is a symptom or indication that these things were implanted within us at the very beginning of creation. They were to be the only things we were made up of, but they have practically been extinguished by sin.

Thus, we see symptoms of depression, mental illness, hate and all kinds of evil becoming more and more revealed in our daily lives. When we connect to God, these positive symptoms that lie deep within us, will once again be manifested in our lives, and our negative qualities can be greatly diminish.

Finally, believers, rejoice! Be made complete [be what you should be], be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace [enjoy the spiritual well-being experienced by believers who walk closely with God]; and the God of love and peace [the source of loving kindness] will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13: 11

Each one of us were created perfectly positive and good human beings, but after A Massive Lie  was told in the Garden of Eden, it created a great conflict within our minds.

The Great Controversy we now experience is one of Good and Evil. Will we do the good that God wants us to do, or will we continue to listen and give in to the temptations of evil from the devil.

Most of the emotional and mental torture we now suffer is because many of us have removed ourselves from under the banner of God and His goodness. By giving in to the sweet temptations from the evil enemy (Satan) we are making the choice to live a tortured experience.  Read more in Good Or Evil

We all get anxious at one time or another in our lives for many different reasons, but we are not to let fear and nervousness dominate our lives as they could lead to greater problems. HELPFUL TIPS FOR OVERCOMING DEPRESSION

Coy wolf

Many of the bible characters suffered from anxiety or other emotional problems. Elijah suffered depression and David suffered much anxiety…. In Psalm 139 : 3 David says: “Search me oh God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts .”

In Philippians 4:6 we are told……“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.”

So while me may become anxious and try to find every earthly way to help us, we should not discount also turning to God for help.

Rough Waters

Increase of Wickedness

9 Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. Mathew 24:9-12

These verses continue to speak of what will happen at the end of the age DAILY DOSE (The End of the Age) They tell us that Christians will be put to death simply because of their love for Jesus and they will be hated by many. Because of all the persecution, many Christians will turn away from serving God, and as a result, they will betray their own Christian Brothers and Sisters.

The scriptures tell us that because of the increase wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. In my last blog, I spoke of (we as a human race) not really knowing the meaning of true  love, and the little love that we do have will now be replaced with hate and anger. Negative emotions will abound.

Right now we can see that many are lacking compassion for the poor and downtrodden. I am however glad to see that the scripture ends by saying; “Those who stand firm to the end will be saved.” This means that even though there is so much hate and unkindness around us, some flicker of “Love” will remain until the end.

So many rough waters we need to pass through.

The bible shows us how we can be free. When we come  out from under God’s protection, we open ourselves up to evil, this is also what happened in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were created to be free. They had everything given to them, with only one restriction. The restriction was given to them so that they could have the freedom of choice to either obey or disobey. Once they disobeyed, we were plunged into sin. We became separated from God , but Jesus came to this earth, died on the cross and rose again, so that we could reclaim our freedom.

Nebuchadnezzar was a king who knew God only on a superficial level. He acknowledge God only with his lips, but not with his heart. He was rich and proud and refused to give God thanks for all that he had acquire. As a result of not acknowledging God, Nebuchadnezzar lost his mind and lived like a homeless person or a wild animal would. He went from having everything to having nothing. He had an attitude like many of us today. He praised himself for the great wealth that he had, and thought he had gained it by his own hard work and in his own strength. He did not recognize it as a blessing from God. Daniel 4:29-30 While on the roof the king said, “Look at Babylon! I built this great city. It is my palace to show how great I am.” As a result of his pride, he lost his wealth and his mind also. The bible tells us he ate grass like an animal, his toe nails were like the claws of a bird, and his hair was like eagle feathers. So he became very dishevelled, just like one who is insane.

Some how through all his insanity, Nebuchadnezzar remembered something deep within and he cried out to God. Once Nebuchadnezzar recognized God, (and it must have been from his heart this time, no longer superficial,) his mind was restored. Daniel 4:34 Then at the end of that time, I Nebuchadnezzar, looked up toward heaven, and was in my “right mind” again. Then I gave praise to the most high. I gave honour and glory to Him who lives forever. God rules forever! His kingdom continues for all generations.

Nebuchadnezzar’s riches were all restored to him. If God’s kingdom continues forever, then we have to be mindful that He is to be honoured and held in high esteem by us. If we are to stay in “Our Right Minds” we should have a heart to heart relationship with God and not only a superficial one.

A Man Possessed By Demons

When Jesus walked this earth He healed many people of their ailments. There was a man who Jesus healed that we today might say was mentally ill, but in the bible it said that the man had evil spirits within him.

Luke 28: 27- 29 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man from that town came to Him. This man had demons inside him. For a long time he had worn no clothes. He did not live in a house, but in the caves where the dead are buried. 28-29 The demon inside the man had often seized him, and he had been put in jail with his hands and feet in chains. But he would always break the chains. The demon inside him would force him to go out to the places where no one lived.

The man told Jesus he had many demons inside of him. So Jesus cast out the demons, and the bible tells us that the man was in his “right mind” again.

Luke 8:35 ……..They came to Jesus and found the man sitting there at the feet of Jesus, the man had clothes on, and was in his “right mind” again.

Today when something bad happens, apart from saying that they were “mentally ill,” the television reporter will also say, “they had demons,” or that “their demons  got the better of them.” this is exactly what is happening. Satan will tempt and lure us into wrong situations, he will also isolate us like he did to this man, taking him out to the graves where no one lived. He, Satan, will slowly and deliberately infiltrate the unsuspecting mind. By looking up toward heaven we can make his job much harder.

It is my opinion that since there is nothing new under the sun, that what the bible refers to as demons or evil spirits, is what we refer to as insanity and mental illness. If we too would raise our heads and look to God, we could live life peaceful and happy and in “our right minds.”

While professional help and medication may still be needed in most cases, God is not to be discounted.

Practically each day on the news, we hear of something bad happening and we are told that the person was either distraught or that they had mental issues. While I have no credentials, I do believe that to have “Mental Issues” is to have demons residing within. It is not a fairy tale that Satan was cast out of heaven and that he has the power to manipulate and tempt. On the other hand if we were more connected to God and knew that we have the Power of the Holy Spirit available to us, many of these problems that we suffer from would be greatly diminished.

I’m not discouraging anyone from taking medication or from seeking help, but I do think that we should also take a serious look at the bible and the Words within its pages. Power and strength and healing are just a few of the gems that lies within the pages of the bible. So the very book that we are avoiding, and the very Person that we are avoiding (God,) is just what we could be needing for total healing of the body, mind and soul.
