What I Saw On The First Nature Walk In The New Year

The First Day:

Well I must say that at 12 midnight I was fast asleep. But I would awake early on the first day of the year to go for a walk in nature. The day was rather cloudy and overcast in Southern Ontario but My hubby and I decided that in spite of the day we would take our cameras along on our walk.

Along The Trails:

Well as soon as we got to the trails, we saw a few photographers. Later other photographer also showed up. At that time there really wasn’t much to take photos of. We were mainly there to get a bit of exercise, but it’s always good to have the camera handy.

Putting In An Appearance:

As you can see a red tail hawk did put in an appearance. Though I have many photos of red tail hawks it was something to photograph.

A First For Me:

A Northern Shrike also flew in, close to where the hawk been. This was the first time I was able to get a few decent photos. It stayed for a while and didn’t seem skittish at all.

Other Birds Seen:

It was quite unusual to see and hear a large number of robins. Usually most of them migrate for the winter, but many seem to be still around. Groups of starlings were also seen flying from tree to tree and finding berries to eat.

Springtime Weather On The First Day:

The day was mild, though overcast and it felt like springtime instead of winter. There were more people than I expected out for an early morning walk. Perhaps more photographers, than the others.

A Variety Of Food:

Well I didn’t get to see the hawk or the shrike with a meal. but if they did eat, it would more that likely a rodent. The other birds were more interested in seeds and berries. It is amazing how they all go after different foods, and not the same food source.

25 “This is why I tell you to never be worried about your life, for all that you need will be provided, such as food, water, clothing—everything your body needs. Isn’t there more to your life than a meal? Isn’t your body more than clothing?

26 “Consider the birds—do you think they worry about their existence? They don’t plant or reap or store up food, yet your heavenly Father provides them each with food. Aren’t you much more valuable to your Father than they? 27 So, which one of you by worrying could add anything to your life? Matthew 6:25-27

  2. Thanks Richard. I’m so glad I took the camera along. You’d think I should know that by now.

    1. I know, it always happens when I don’t have the camera, that I see something, or when I have the wrong lens.
      Thanks Wayne.
