What The Bible Says About Spirituality And About Death

What Scripture Does For Us:

I decided to write this post after speaking to a friend about death and about being Spiritual.

I find the Bible shows us exactly how we should live. While many of us love the inspirational Scriptures that strengthens us, there are also Scriptures we need to pay attention too, like the ones that showed where a nation or some one might have been rebuked for doing something that was wrong and then they were showed the right way to live.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16

Profitable: Beneficial or useful.

Reproof: To rebuke, to reprimand.

Correction: Wrong things may be mentioned in the Bible, but then it will also tell us how to make things right. When we fully read our Bibles, it will point us to a better way of life and living.

Instruction: it teaches us, it educates us, it gives us knowledge and information that we need to know.

When we drink from our Rock Christ Jesus we will be filled

Things We Should Not Do:

Some think that if something is in the Bible then it must be ok to do it, but many things are in the Bible to let us know certain things that we should stay away from. The Scriptures below are a perfect example of things we should stay away from.

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, [f]murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. 2 Chronicles 33:6

On Matters Of Being Spiritual:

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1

How We Become Spiritual:

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

So in other words, in order to be filled with the spirit or think of ourselves as a Spiritual Person we have to be Spiritually connected to God. We have to know who God is and we have to continually feast on His Word, (Bible) and live His every word daily.

On Death According To Scriptures:

For in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks? Psalm 6:5

In other words when we die, we know nothing. We must give our thanks to God now, for it is impossible to do so when we are dead in the grave.

Lord, You will establish peace for us,
For You have also done all our works [g]in us.
13 O Lord our God, masters besides You
Have had dominion over us;
But by You only we make mention of Your name.
14 They are dead, they will not live;
They are deceased, they will not rise.
Therefore You have punished and destroyed them,
And made all their memory to perish. Isaiah 26:12-14

The dead are deceased, they can no longer stand or walk, they have no memory, and they know nothing.

he cannot take it with him when he dies;
his wealth will not go with him to the grave. Psalm 49:17 GNT

When we do not sense the presence of God, we feel troubled and afraid. When He takes our breath, we die and return to dust. Many find this very hard to take or to believe, but the scriptures tells us so….But….when we are connected to God, we die with the hope of Him raising us from the grave when He returns so that one day we may live in eternity with Him.

You hide Your face, they are troubled;
You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
Psalm104:29

The Comfort of Christ’s Coming

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who [c]sleep in Jesus.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are [d]asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

The above verse really says it all. If you have a loved one who believed in God but they died, they are dead, they know nothing and they are dust in the grave…BUT…when Christ returns to this earth, the graves will be opened at the sound of His voice, and this is when the dead in Christ will rise up to meet Him. They will rise up to meet Him, and then the ones who are alive who also follow God daily (at this very time) will also be lifted up to meet Him.
