Discontent No More:
Yesterday I was watering all the weeds in my garden along with a few plants, and trying to decide if it was perhaps time to stop the milkweed from taking over. I was quite annoyed because I hadn’t seen one caterpillar.
Just as I was finished watering and putting the hose away, I spotted this Black Swallowtail Caterpillar. Suddenly I felt joyful and hopeful once again. It’s not even on the milkweed plant, but its on Queen Anne’s Lace, but regardless I’m happy to see it, and glad that I didn’t kill it because of the bad location.
Feeding Time For Swallowtail:
Right now the caterpillar is at the feeding stage, and it looks as though it may be ready to go to the pupation stage soon. Today when I came out, I thought it would be gone, but it was still there…in a different location, but still there feasting on the Queen Anne’s Lace which was probably brought to the backyard by birds. A time is coming when it will not be able to eat, so for now it fills itself, and very soon it will transform into a beautiful butterfly.
Feeding Time For Humans:
Each time I see the caterpillar it really reminds me of our Christian walk. It reminds me how as new Christian we start out slowly like the caterpillar as it crawls, and at this stage we too are to fill ourselves with food…. Spiritual Food (Scriptures) if we want to be transformed. However feeding on the Scriptures will only take us part of the way. We could die filled with Scriptures and not experience transformation. Many caterpillars also die while in the feeding stage without transforming into the beautiful butterfly.
all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 1Corinthians 10:3-4
Transformation:
Only when we live according to the words we have learned from the Scriptures on a daily basis…it is only then that we will be transformed. Not only do we have to know the Scriptures, but We must remember God in all that we say and all that we do, and He must be reflected in our daily living.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
Prayer:
I pray that one day we will all be transformed into the people God wants us to become, spreading our beauty (God’s Word) everywhere we go, just like the butterfly spread its beauty. We would then be doers of the word and not only hearers of the Word.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22

Beautiful photo, beautiful post. A great reminder. I hope your caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly!
Yes, I do hope it makes it. I went looking for it today but couldn’t find it. I would like to see it in its next stage.
That would be very cool if you did fine him again!
I intend to keep looking each time I go to water.
Beautiful
Thank you!!
Amen! Well said!
