……for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; Acts 18:10

I’m always a little apprehensive to go on the trails alone, but this attack would come on the road and not the trails.

CAMPING 2019

Well I just can’t help but share what happened to me yesterday while I was out. And thank God I actually survived to tell the tale.

It was a glorious day.  The sun was shining and the temperature mild. The perfect day to get out and get some fresh air.

I decided to visit a couple of my favorite trails and take a treat for the little song birds and take some photos at the same time. All was going fine. Others were out enjoying the beautiful day, and I got the chance to stop and chat to people that I met along the way.

After spending a few hours outdoors I decided to start making my way back home. I went to the parking lot, got into my car, and started driving up the road. That is when I saw him….standing in the middle of the road, not making a move.

It would be foolish of him to stand there when he saw a vehicle coming in his direction. I thought, ‘What is that turkey doing standing in the road? I’ll keep driving, and perhaps he will move when I get closer I get to him.” So that’s exactly what I did.

I started driving, and now he did make a move. He called my bluff and started running straight at the car. Well now I just couldn’t believe it. He ran right at the car to the point where I couldn’t see him anymore.

Now what to do!

I just sat there for a while not wanting to run over a wild turkey. I was about to get out of the car when  he came to my window and with a ferociousness, he looked at me with his blue face and  with his beak he kept pecking at the car, and gobbling away at me, daring me to get out of the car. Well, of course I didn’t.

I am quite puzzled by the behavior of this wild turkey. Perhaps it blames us humans for the state that it’s environment is in. Perhaps it has something to do with the changing climate. It’s land space is diminishing….I’m not sure. However, I finally saw a chance to slowly drive away without running over the wild turkey.

  1. I have never tangled with a wild turkey, but I have seen my share of what bears can do.
The roads through Northern Ontario going west can see it’s share of major accidents.
If I have a passenger I tell them don’t look, you may not like what you see.
I hope the wild turkey didn’t do much damage to your car.

    1. Oh my, I’d rather the turkey than a bear….though I would still like to see a bear, but from a distance.. Not too much damage, thank goodness, but I’ve never seen anything like that before……a turkey trying to run me off the road. He got all fluffed up and came straight at the car. I was going to roll the window down to chase him away, but rolled it back up quickly when he came at me. Lol!!

      1. Lol…The trail I was on before, they were wild turkeys there…they would come and eat some of the sunflower seeds or peanuts that I left for the songbirds….but no behavior like that one on the road. Maybe he wanted some food…but i felt he would have attack me if I had open my window…..

    1. 😀😀Not sure what he wanted, but I sure wasn’t going to open that door or window to give him anything.
