Today’s Word: Intercession

To plead on behalf of another person.  A prayer to God on behalf of another person.

Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Romans 8:34

It is so comforting to know that as Jesus sits at the right hand of God, that He is still pleading our case before God. This is the merciful God that we are serving.

Hebrews 7:25
“Consequently He is able for all time to save those who approach God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans‬ ‭8:26-27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

How wonderful to know, whenever our words fail; the spirit takes the petition of our hearts, to the Lord on our behalf!

“Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
Isaiah 53:12 KJV

  1. It’s a significant role we have as Jesus Christ hands and feet when we serve him. Because we must also remember that our duty also includes intercessary prayer so as Christ, was wounded for our transgressions and by his stripes we are healed. He is in the most holy place making intercession for us and standing in the gap.

“Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

    1. Yes Ace, you are absolutely correct in saying that we should also intercede for one another. We need to support one another in prayer.
Thank you also for taking part, I really appreciate it, and have added the below scripture to my post.

  2. I find most “christians” prayers are self centered.
I grew up where Wednesday night was Bible Study and Prayer.
Sunday evenings the service usually ended with an open invitation to gather around the altar to pray for each other. This is a dying breed, maybe extinct, I have been searching for one like this as a home church.
There is one more way of interceeding for another, be like Christ and wash somebody’s feet. Whoops, maybe I shouldn’t go there, but I did…lol

    1. You are so right when you say that we can be self-centered in our prayers. I find this to be true at times. But the church which I go to which is a Saturday (Sabbath Keeping)church, we have a Prayer Meeting every Wednesday night, which I really haven’t attended for a while, but they do ask for Prayer Request and then they will separate forming small groups and pray for each other, or if someone in the church has a pressing need, they will also be prayed for. There is also a list of names published in the bulletin each Sabbath for those in need of Prayer.
Lol!!…No laughing matter, but we just had our third Communion (Foot Washing) for the year this past Saturday. We do it four times a year followed by the breaking of the bread and the grape juice. For me all these things are Biblical and a part of my belief system.

      1. Thank you—Though it’s good to devour scripture and have a personal relationship with God, it is also good to have the support of a church family. I belong to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and they all follow a similar program. You should check them out some time. Just pay them a visit—listen to what they have to say and see if you find them to be basing their beliefs on the Bible.

    1. That was the scripture I almost used Warren—I guess I left it for you. Thanks for being so faithful.

  4. Hebrews 7:25
“Consequently He is able for all time to save those who approach God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

Jesus lives forevermore so He stands ready to make intercession for His flock. He remains the Good Shepherd.
