How I Know When I’m Out Of My Comfort Zone

Where I Find Comfort:

We all like to be comfortable, to do things and to go places where we feel comfortable. Most of us live with ease and comfort day after day, and all is well with the world.

In the past few years I have found that I am most comfortable and relaxed when I’m somewhere outdoors. I love the peacefulness and the quietness of nature, and I love to be able to capture photos of what I see before me.

Tranquil Moments

When I’m outdoors I take my time, walking at a slow paste, enjoying the fresh air and just taking in my surroundings. Though this is what I like, it can be torture for someone else who is use to a more hurried paste of life. I remember the days of running from job to job with hardly any time to take a breath in between, but those days are long past.

I know that our bodies are the temple of God, and God wants us to be healthy in every way possible. To live a good healthy life, we must be balanced in every way, and this is something I find very hard to do.

Yes, I speak here on my blog post about Spiritual Health and how important it is. It is of the upmost importance to be continually connected to God.

Some of my post have also been on Mental Health, and how I believe in order to be Mentally Healthy we have to be Spiritually Healthy. But what about the physical side of it? I would say this is where I am most lacking. When we exercise it tends to make us feel so much better, yet it is something that most of us tend not to do.

Feelings Of Being Lost:

It’s nice to share moments and experiences with a friend, and going to the gym is one of these experiences.

For the longest time I put of going to the gym, because I had no one to go with. Each day I read this blog susiesopinions and can’t help but admire how committed she is to the gym and her exercises.

A few months ago my friend Camille and I decided we would start going to the gym, and we were both happy to have the company and support of each other to get started. So this was the week we planned we would start, and we actually stuck to our promise.

For me, it’s been a while, so I felt so lost walking around the gym looking at the machines and not sure how to use them properly.

On the first day, the young girl did give us a tour around the gym, showing us all that Good Life Fitness had to offer. Then I was on my own to try out the machines. Even though I wasn’t sure how to use the machines, my body felt better for the little bit of exercise I did that day.

A Near Mishap:

On the second day, the lady would show us the circuit with the certain machines that would work all the body muscles. Not only did she show us the machines, but both Camille and myself would get a turn to try out the machines. Camille has her pass already and she is more familiar with the machines. By this time our hour was nearly up and it was time to get our massage and go. Its amazing what just a little bit of exercise will do to wake up the body.

I have used the treadmill before, but not for sometime now. So yesterday we got to the gym, and Camille and I got on the treadmills beside each other to do our warm ups.

So the day before when the lady was showing me the treadmill, I told her I wanted to keep the speed very low not too far above 1 point. Today however, I wanted to go a little bit higher.

While on the treadmill I turned and was having a chat with Camille as I was trying to get my speed up. I kept pushing it while chatting to Camille, but it seemed to still be going very slow. I wanted to get it to at least 2, but now all of a sudden I saw 12, and I’m holding on for dear life and running on the machine, when I could barely walk at 1.9.

Now I’m in panic mode. I’m going much faster than I wanted to go. I can see the stop button, but I’m holding on to the sides for dear life and too afraid to let go. Finally between Camille and myself we get the machine stopped, and then I got it going at a more comfortable speed.

Out of my comfort zone, but near disaster averted.

Once I was now properly going on the machine, and hope no one video taped me, our instructor came by. She was so happy to see how well we were doing. I told her she should have been there a few seconds ago.

So we have visited the gym three times this week, and already I feel more life in my body. I’m so thankful for God keeping us safe, even at the gym, and also to have someone to go with.

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

  2. Leola, I can feel your happiness in exercising more. Having Camille there is wonderful. Please be safe with the treadmill. Personally, I avoid them and look for a stationary bike. Hopefully good weather will allow me to continue my morning walks for some time to come.
