We lose our freedom when we become addicted. The addiction can be to drugs, gambling, food, pornography, sex, gambling, tobacco and alcohol.

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Romans 6:16

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:13-15

For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 1 John 2:16

We only can be totally free when we are connected to God. When we stay in a close relationship with Him and allow Him to be our Guide, only then can we regain our freedom that we my have lost to addictive behavior.

When we have a sense of freedom because of our connection to God, we will have a feeling of lightness. There will be less stress and worries in our lives, and we will be in a happier and more loving frame of mind.

  1. Addictions are powerful. But our God is more powerful. I think a lack of appreciation when it comes to freedom in Christ causes many to lose it.

    1. Absolutely true…many find Christ and His commands to be restrictive, when they are just the opposite!!
