Today’s Word: Garden

The Prayer in the Garden ] Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” Matthew 26:36

It’s hard not to think of gardening or the garden with the good weather we should be having any day now. A garden, when well maintained can be an enjoyable place to spend some time. We know that Jesus loves gardens because when man was created, he would be placed in the Garden of Eden to live. Now here we have Jesus about to be betrayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, by one of His friends.

This must have been one of the loneliest times for Jesus. He brought three of His disciples with Him to the garden to pray. While He went off to pray they fell asleep. He went back to them and woke them up, this happened a couple of times, but each time they fell back to sleep. I use to think that it was only me, but so often I hear others speak of falling asleep while trying to read the Bible, or nodding off when trying to pray. The enemy really knows when to step in. This was the time when Jesus needed His disciples the most. He even shared with them how He was feeling. He told them that He was sorrowful even to the point of death.

Sorrowful

The bible tells us that Jesus was sorrowful and deeply distressed.

Here are some of the words that mean the same as

Sorrowful:  melancholy, sad, heartrending, mournful, sorry, painful, afflicted, dejected, depressed, heartbroken, miserable, unhappy, woeful, hurting, in mourning, sick at heart.

Distress: unhappiness, affliction, anguish, heartache, tribulation, woe, wretchedness, desolation, grief, discomfort, anxiety….

These words can be used to describe each and every one of us at some point and time in our lives. This is why we are to cry out to God in our times of trouble, because He understands what it is like to be experiencing all of those negative feelings.

Our Compassionate High Priest

14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.Hebrews 4:14-16

Jesus is our High Priest and he knows and can sympathize with all our weaknesses. I am so thankful to our heavenly Father for sending His beloved Son Jesus into this world, to redeem us from a life of sin. We often say salvation is free, but Jesus paid a great price, going through what He did for us.

As Easter draws nearer our minds are brought to focus on the price that Jesus did payed. He was mistreated, lied on, and place to die on a cross, while the thief was set free. But praise God, we know that was not the end of the story. We know that He Lives, and that He is in heaven now, interceding on our behalf.

“Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:8-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬
When I reflect on our rebirth, in Christ. We can say that we become Adam, planted in our Eden; God’s love being our garden. If we are fruitful; within His love we grow, bloom, flourish. A heart being formed in His image. As His river of love, forever waters our soul. A heart being separated, to display His good work! #My Hallelujah!
John 19:41
“Now there was a garden in the place where He was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid.”
The tomb will become the site for burial of Jesus. From this tomb will come the Resurrection of our Savior.
