Water saturates

The brain with needed goodness

Will function better.

It’s so easy to give in to the unhealthy. Just as we so easily give into negative and unhealthy thinking, we also easily give in to unhealthy foods and we are led to do so by our taste buds.

Ultimate Healthy Foods

We are all aware that when God created us He placed us in a garden surrounded by beautiful flowers and fruit trees, so one could assume that all we needed to keep us alive would have been found there in that garden. More than likely all our foods would have been fresh and raw, and we don’t even have to guess because His words tells us what we were to be initially eating.

 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Genesis 1:29

As far as water was concerned I’m sure that we would have had the freshest and purest of water without any fears of contamination.

Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. Genesis 2:10

Second Best

I’m not so sure how long perfection reigned on earth before the first sin, but we have now moved so far away from God that it’s hard to even imagine that such a time existed. This would have been a time of having the perfect diet, never experiencing a day of sickness, and a time of having a beautiful connection with our Creator. A time spent in a beautiful garden, communing with God in the fresh air, with birds chirping their happiness and the tame animals surrounding us. Because of the first sin Adam and Eve would have to leave their home, and from there on everything drastically changed. Our diets would now be changed and so would our connection with God, and further more the earth would forever be changed as it was now cursed.

Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:

“Cursed is the ground for your sake;
In toil you shall eat of it
All the days of your life.
18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
And you shall eat the herb of the field.
19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:17-19

Up to this point no rain had ever fallen on the earth. The earth was watered by a mist or what we know as dew. It was only after sin that rain fell to the earth.

This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.

Apart from the dew which covered the whole earth, the garden was also watered by a river that ran through it.

Moving Further Away From Perfection

I’m not quite sure how many years has passed by this time, but we know that sin is now great in the world, so much so that God causes a flood to cleanse the earth of it’s vileness. Noah and his family and the animals on the ark are the only ones that are speared. Everything is now destroyed on the earth, when Noah and his family emerges from the ark after the flood and God gives Noah permission to eat meat. Many look at this text and wear it like a badge by saying it’s okay to eat meat since God gave permission to do so. But we must remember this was never the first choice He had for us, or even the second choice. Here I see how merciful God is to mankind, even with all our shortcomings and our sinful nature.

 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Genesis 9:3

Moving Toward Extinction

So many of us can be so ungrateful in that we do not see the goodness of God, and how He strengthens us to keep us going from day to day. We really are no different than the Israelite as they journeyed through the wilderness. I say this because as you read the scriptures you see how they were cared for by God Himself, just as a mother would care for a young child. God provided them with food to eat on a daily basis (Manna) and yet they complained. He gave them the best, but they wanted the meats and the other foods that they ate when they were back in Egypt.

Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “Who will give us meat to eat? Numbers 11:4

Manna Provided By God

Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium. The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil. And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.

God Gives The People What They Desired

We really do need to be careful what we request of the Lord, for our wishes may be granted, because God in His goodness sees to help us one way, but we would rather His help in other ways, and that is exactly what happened with the Israelite. After hearing them cry out over and over for meat, God gave them there request.

 Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. 19 You shall eat, not one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, 20 but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have despised the Lord who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, “Why did we ever come up out of Egypt?” Numbers 11:18-20

The Lord Sends Quail

 Now a wind went out from the Lord, and it brought quail from the sea and left them fluttering near the camp, about a day’s journey on this side and about a day’s journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the ground. 32 And the people stayed up all that day, all night, and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers); and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was aroused against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague. Numbers 11:31-33

Conclusion

We are so far removed from the way how God intended things to be, and I really mean “we.” I’m not writing this to condemn anyone for eating meat, as I too eat meat. I don’t eat it as much as I once did, only because I find I feel better without it and yet at times I feel as though I need it. God really does know best. His ways are not our ways, so they may not appeal to us, but if we want to live a healthy happy long life, it is best to “strive” to live the way that God intended us to live, and one way to do this is to maintain a healthy diet, which ultimately leads to a better connection with Him. We can see how our diets changed over a period of time, and also how our connection with God became more and more distant.
