Today’s Word: Tongue

For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. James 3:7-10

The bible says that every kind of beast is tamed or has been tamed by man, but our tongues cannot be tamed. Some of the words that can be used to describe the tongue is uncontrollable, reckless, wayward, quarrelsome, lawless and rebellious, to name a few.

We don’t usually have to go far to hear a wayward tongue in action, because at one time or another we are all guilty of it. The above scripture tells us that we will praise our God and Father with our tongue, and in no time we can turn around and curse our fellow man who is made in the likeness of God. So we give blessings and we give curses with the same tongue, that’s why it’s a good practice to be asking God for forgiveness each and every day.

There is a show that I watch called /survivor/ yes, one of my weaknesses. I only watch because I know I would never make it on Survivor for more than two days, and if I did, they would have me voted off as one of the first, for being one of the weakest players.😃 Now they are all quite nice people, but when put to the test, it’s amazing how far some of them will go. They smile, speak words of love to the human face, but as soon as the person is out of sight, the tongue goes wild. Many players are blindsided and voted off without having a clue that it was coming. Some do have a conscious and will never go that far to demoralize another human being.

From time to time I’m asked why I watch this show, I guess I do, because I like the sense of adventure in it, but I know that what is played out in this game, many times in real life, the same things happens in many instances.

Though we are all guilty of abusing the tongue, at least as Christians who love and follow the Lord, we should strive every day to use our tongues appropriately. We should focusing on blessing others, and see if we can eliminate the cursing and all the negativity that can come forth from our tongues. I know it can be very difficult at times, but this is also a good thing to give to the Lord in prayer, and ask Him to see us through.

“From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” Proverbs‬ ‭18:20-22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A tongue bears much fruit; yielding positive, or tragic results. Builds up, or tears down. May others thrive from a fruitful heart, not just be a Survivor; of a rotten attitude! Blessings!

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2. The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. Proverbs 15:1-2

      1. A verse that I had scheduled to post today lol it must be a day of tongues 🙂 Coincidence, I think not. Our God doesn’t do coincidences 😉

Nevertheless they did flatter Him with their mouth, and they lied unto Him with their tongues. — Psalms 78:36

      2. Wow, how amazing is that. Yes, so true that with God there is no coincidence. Perhaps this is something that He wants all of us to keep in mind!! I know that for me, it is something that I need to watch very carefully.
