Unexplained

The sky was dark and threatening, and the radio announcer said it looked like something out of a Steven King movie. They were forecasting not only rain, but also thunder and lightning. I had a short drive to the train station ahead of me and then an hour on the train, as I was on my way to the dentist.

After hearing the weather forecast I decided to hurry to the train station before it started to rain. As soon as I stepped out of the car at the train station, a few big raindrops came down and I hurried inside to purchase my ticket. I am terrified of lightning, so I went in to praying mode, talking to God in my mind and asking Him to hold the lightning off till my trip was over.

I got my ticket, went back outside to get on the train, and the big drops that were coming down when I got out of the car had stop. I got on the train and sat down, but I couldn’t relax as I kept looking at the darkness of the sky. My journey started and thankfully I made it to my destination without seeing any lightning. After I got off the train, I now hopped on to the subway to take me the rest of the way which was about 5 minutes away, with about 3 stops above ground, and thank goodness I once again saw no rain or lightning.

I walked out of the station and went next door to where the dentist was located. The hygienist was there on her own, and she was quite frightened. She said, “Oh Leola, wasn’t that awful, I had kids here and they were screaming. They were so afraid, and I was also afraid.” Why, I asked her. “Well because of the thunder and the lightning.” She remarked, still pretty flustered. I felt a little puzzled as I had not heard any thunder or seen any lightning, and the only rain I had seen was a few big rain drops when I had first got to the train station.

Soon after the hygienist had told me this, a gentleman entered the dental office, and he too remarked how horrible it was outside. He said part of the road was flooded, and cars had to pull over to the side of the road to wait the storm out. Once again I felt puzzled as I had not seen or heard anything.

Often we wonder how God will protect His people when the time comes, and I can only think that it will be something like how I was protected on that day. I went on my journey and everything was well, while all seemed to have been chaos around. The God we serve now is still the same God in Biblical times, and the same way He protected them then, He can also protect us in the same way now.
