So today I’m doing something a little different. I’m going to start sharing some of my experiences with you starting with this one. These are experiences, some of which I encountered even before recognizing the workings of God in my life. I may have shared this particular experience in an earlier blog, and if you know me quite well, I’m sure you’ve also heard of this experience before, because I find when things like this happen they are very hard to forget.IMG_3602 Landscape

This particular incident took place several years ago. It happened on a snowy morning as I was driving to work. The roads were snow covered and slippery, and I’m not a fan of driving in that kind of weather. I usually would pay close attention to the lights, making sure if it’s a fresh green light, or to see if I needed to prepare to slow down, so that I wouldn’t slide into the intersection.

As I was driving along, I came to a section of road where I had to go down hill, and right in that downward decent was a stop light. It would be a bit tricky to maneuver on this slippery day, so I decided to pay careful attention to the stop light, so I would know if I needed to slow down for a stop, or speed up to clear the intersection. As I started making my way down the hill I felt encouraged to see the light turn to green, so I knew I had enough time to clear the intersection and all would be well. That is when it happened.

As I was getting closer to the the lights I clearly heard my name, and I was told to slow down. Now I was the only one in the car, and it made no sense at all for me to slow down for a green light–none whatsoever. So I kept on driving and getting even closer to the intersection, when once again I distinctly heard, “Leola, slow down.” Well I was a little puzzled as to why I should slow down for a green light. It made no sense whatsoever, but I decided to let up off the gas a bit and slow down.

I will be eternally grateful to God that I heeded His warning, which I really didn’t realize at the time that was what I was doing. But just before I got into the intersection a car came sliding down the hill from the right of me, going through his red light. If I had not listen, the car would definitely have collided with me. I am thankful to God for this warning through His Holy Spirit.

God is seeking to get all of our attentions, but are we heeding His warnings. Perhaps He is trying today to prevent someone from taking a wrong turn in their lives, but the individual refuses to take His warnings. Then when things don’t work out the way we expect them to, the first one to be blamed is God. I could have been also blaming Him after the accident saying, ” Why did He allow this to happen to me? I’m sure glad that it didn’t turn out that way.

My Prayer is that we will get beyond all the noise in our heads, get to a place of stillness, to a place where we can hear the whispers of the Holy Spirit and His still soft voice, and when we get to that place, that we will allow Him to guide us in the right direction. It may not be the direction we think we should be going in, but God knows best, and He wants nothing but the best for our lives.

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:19

  1. Such an amazing story!! One time many years ago I was headed home. I was on the phone with a friend and all of a sudden the phone turned completely off, but my battery was fully charged. Not even two seconds later a car wrecked right in front of me. I had enough time to get over to avoid being hit, but I wouldn’t have been able to do that if I was still on my phone. After I had calmed down I looked at my phone and it was on, like nothing had happened! That’s the 1st time I’ve ever experienced God being right there with me.

    1. Your story is also a pretty awesome one Michelle. God is always right there and trying to save us from the harm that surrounds us. I think that most times we don’t get the message, or we just carrying on doing what we want to do, and as a result we get ourselves in trouble and then we blame God. Just think what would have happened if He didn’t cause your phone to shut down. You probably would have gone on using it and the end result would not have been a good one.

    1. My hope and prayer is that everyone would realize that God wants for all of us to be save and He through His Holy spirit is trying to get the attention of many.

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed reading it. God is real, and after that ordeal, I was able to travel the rest of the way rejoicing, thanking and praising Jesus–no longer focusing on the bad roads, but celebrating the fact that I was in the Hand of God and He was protecting me.

    1. Yes, circumstances like these makes me more steadfast in my belief in God. Thanks for stopping by.
