We may not want to admit it, but I would dare to say that if not right at this moment, at some point in our lives, our tongues have been filled with a deadly poison. How do I know this? The Word of God which is filled with wisdom says so, and here is why.
Scripture tells us that:
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. James 3:6
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. James 3:7,
8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. James 3:9&10
Dear Lord I pray that You will help me to use my tongue in a way that’s pleasing to You, and as the birds dare to accept the food man has to offer, me we as human beings also accept the food that You have given to us through Your Holy Scripture.
Its only through the works if the holy spirit that we can have any success in taming the tongue. We are representatives of Jesus Christ and we embrace this role of being witnesses for him then we will follow only his will. The tongue then belongs to him and ss such we act accordingly. For instance when we are celebrating a team win at a basketball game at the ACC we scream and tell as is customary. However, while visiting your local church at worship time, it necessary to be reverant and as such we behaviour accordingly. It has been said that people in general would rather be, belong but not behave so let’s keep our tongue in check the next time we find our selves in conflict or in a tough situation. My advice PRAY – pray until something happens.
Yes, I like your advice. Prayer does go a very long way especially when we do it continually. To speak unkindly is to give in to the temptations of the enemy, as Jesus never spoke unkindly to anyone. We really do need to follow His example on a daily basis. Daily dying to self so that we can be more like Him.
Amen! A prayer for us all, Lord! #Help Us All!
